Subject: MB2/Win95 weirdness
Date: Thu, 16 Jan 1997 00:33:16 -0500 (EST)

I'm using NTemacs on Win95 with a MS 2-button mouse, so I have to push
both buttons at once to do any MB2 actions. However, doing so seems
to sometimes leave MB1 acting strangely on the Win95 desktop.

When this happens, double-clicks seems to have the effect of a
right-button (bringing up a popup menu) and left-clicking elsewhere on
the desktop won't get rid of the menu. However, it seems that
clicking both buttons at once a few times clears up this problem.

Has anyone else seen this? Does Win95 think the both-buttons thing is
something special that I don't know about? And if so, can I turn it
off?

I'm new to the list; sorry if this has been covered before -- a quick
glance didn't find it in the mail archives.

I noticed this effect too.

I noticed that clicking the right button on the desktop followed by
clicking the left button on the desktop clears up this problem.
I have no workaround to avoid this effect. Does anyone know
how this effect can be avoided?

Thank you very much.

In http://www.microsoft.com

click on	action items: download free software

click on	Drivers, Patches and Service Packs: Windows95 Shareware

Click on	PowerToys	(TweakUI is a PowerToy!)

Load it down and install it. Read the Read.me.
This is for Windows95. I don't know if there exist PowerToys for WindowsNT.

Hope I could help.

I've also had this problem, but I don't associate it with ntemacs, because
other users in my office that do not use emacs also have the problem.

It's a documented bug in Windows 95. I think one of the patches at
www.microsoft.com must contain a fix, because I can't make it happen now.

I couldn't find a patch on their web site (though that definitely
doesn't mean one isn't there), and this is the only thing I could find
with MS's crappy Knowledge Base search engine; it's pretty old.

it seems to work best with emacs if the delay time is set to 0 (zero) ms, anything
above that and the emacs frames won't switch focus. (this is on a win95 P166)
