4.6 Variables

Variables are the basic unit of data storage in PSPP. All the variables in a file taken together, apart from any associated data, are said to form a dictionary. Some details of variables are described in the sections below.

• Attributes: Attributes of variables.
• System Variables: Variables automatically defined by PSPP.
• Sets of Variables: Lists of variable names.
• Input/Output Formats: Input and output formats.
• Scratch Variables: Variables deleted by procedures.
